The DVSA’s own figure is that learners take on average around 45 hours of professional lessons plus about 22 hours of private practice before passing. That is an average, not a target.

In practice it varies a lot. People who have driven abroad, or who get regular practice in a family car between lessons, often need far fewer. Complete beginners with no practice in between usually need more. After your first couple of lessons your instructor will give you an honest estimate rather than a sales pitch.

Yes. You must hold a valid UK provisional driving licence before you can legally drive on a public road, and you need to bring it to every lesson. You can apply for one from the age of 15 years and 9 months, and start driving at 17.

A manual licence lets you drive both manual and automatic cars. An automatic licence lets you drive automatics only — if you later want to drive a manual, you would need to take another test.

That said, automatics take the clutch and gears out of the equation, so a lot of people learn faster and feel calmer in one. If you are anxious about driving, in a hurry, or you know you will only ever drive an automatic, it is a sensible choice. We teach both at the same hourly rate.

Our intensive courses travel further — York, Worksop, Doncaster, Barnsley, Chesterfield and Wakefield as well as Sheffield and Rotherham. If you are not sure whether we reach you, send us your postcode and we will tell you straight away.

Yes. We collect you from home, work or college anywhere in the areas we cover, and drop you back at the end of the lesson. There is no extra charge for pick-up within our coverage area.

If you have never driven before, we start somewhere quiet. The first lesson covers the cockpit drill — seat, mirrors, seatbelt, controls — then moving off, changing gear, and stopping safely. Most people are driving the car within the first half hour.

You will not be thrown into traffic on day one, and you will not be shouted at. If you have driven before, we will spend the first lesson working out what you already have and where the gaps are.

You book either 30 hours (£1,500) or 45 hours (£2,250), and we compress those hours into 7–14 days. During your course we clear other lessons and obligations from the diary so you get our full attention.

We book the earliest theory and practical test dates we can get for you. If you do not pass your first practical test, we pay for your next attempt and find you a new test date within 8 weeks.

The trade-off is intensity: intensive courses suit people who can commit whole days and who learn well under pressure. If that does not sound like you, weekly lessons will serve you better and we will say so.

This is a lot of what we do. Both instructors have spent years working with anxious learners — people who have failed before, people who have had a bad experience with a previous instructor, and people returning to driving after an accident or a long gap.

Yes. Saira is our female instructor, with 12 years of teaching experience. Daniyal is our male instructor, with 9 years. You can request either when you book, and we will do our best to match you — subject to availability in your area.

Both instructors teach in English and Urdu.

The theory and practical test fees are set by the DVSA and paid to them, not to us — they are separate from your lesson costs. Current fees are listed on GOV.UK.

On an intensive course we book both tests for you as early as we can get them.

Your UK provisional driving licence. Your theory test pass is checked electronically, but it is worth having the details to hand.

Arrive with time to spare, and if you are unwell or your licence has expired, tell us as early as you can so we can look at rescheduling.

We take lessons from 8am to 8pm, seven days a week. Evening and weekend slots go quickly, so it is worth asking early if you need a particular time.
